The Institute of Packaging South Africa (IPSA) first introduced the Gold Pack Awards back in 1973 as a way of recognising and celebrating the very best in the South African packaging industry. Almost 50 years later, the awards have grown into one of the most prestigious acknowledgements of packaging excellence in the country. All Gold Pack Awards medal winners are eligible to go on to enter the World Packaging Organisation’s WorldStar Awards, giving them a chance to gain recognition for their outstanding packaging on a global stage.
To holistically uplift the entire SA industry and beyond, the awards also include the Student Awards and AfriStar Awards categories. The Student category is an integral part of IPSA’s education objective where project briefs are created for students to solve realistic packaging and marketing challenges. The AfriStar category extends the recognition of excellence beyond our borders and welcomes entries from anywhere on the African continent.
The Gold Pack Award categories are divided into two broad groups based on the product’s market type and packaging materials. Judges take into account innovation and execution in both the production and market efficacy of product packaging. Sustainability and environmental awareness are also high on the priority list, with several Special awards dedicated specifically to this area.
FIL is happy to announce that we took home one Gold and two Bronze Medals along with two Finalist Awards at the 2022 Gold Pack Awards. This year FIL walked away proudly with the following five awards:
- Gold Medal – Dove and Shield Roll-on Range
- Bronze Medal – Rhino Beer 660ml Bottle
- Bronze Medal – SofnFree Range
- Finalist Award – Coco Rico Salted Caramel & Coconut Cream Liqueur
- Finalist Award – Spar Tender and Tasty Shakers, Grinders and Sauces Range
The awards are an important means of taking stock of our industry overall and measuring its progress and performance, especially considering the tough economic climate we’ve faced. With strong industry support and participation of key players in terms of both competing and sponsorship, the awards are also about fostering co-operation across the industry and along the packaging supply chain, to ensure the industry works together to achieve even greater things in the future. FIL is privileged and honoured to have been part of this year’s awards and would like to thank all the organisers, sponsors and competitors for making it possible.
