The GAPP Awards is an industry leading competition that celebrates the pinnacle of excellence in South Africa’s printing, packaging and signage industry. The awards are organised by Sentient Publishing, owners of the premium industry publication, The GAPP magazine. GAPP stands for Graphics, Advertising, Print and Packaging, and the magazine has been creating high-quality, targeted, business-to-business publications that reach key industry decision-makers for over 19 years.
By structuring the GAPP Awards to focus on specific print categories, the competition acknowledges the most exceptional and innovative work within tightly defined parameters. Covering 60 categories of print techniques, the awards ensure that every aspect of the industry is represented and makes it the most extensive and specialised print quality competition in the world.
The 2022 GAPP Awards was the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic that the ceremony was able to take place as a public gathering. The elegant gala event was held at Emperor’s Palace on the 25th of March and comprised a stunning banquet dinner and awards ceremony.
With almost 800 entries being analysed by a panel of over 50 judges using the most stringent criteria for excellence, this year’s awards presented a fiercely contested battle of the highest caliber.
Vikesh Roopchand, Managing Director of Sentient Publishing and Publisher of The GAPP magazine, praised all the entrants as being heroes of the industry who tirelessly push the boundaries and consistently produce remarkable work. He went on to say, “Winning at any level of these awards should be celebrated – it marks your spot as being one of the top 5 producers of that category in Southern Africa. You truly are the mavericks of genius and the architects of transcendence”.
In each category there are Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards with Winning Achievers also being acknowledged. This year, First Impression Labels was proud to walk away with five awards, three in Flexible Packaging – Shrink Sleeves and two in Flexographic Printing – Labels Process.
